Job Summary
The Business Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the company’s construction crews and ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within scope, and according to quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and the ability to coordinate between field crews and office staff. The Business Manager will collaborate closely with the Owner/CEO, Crew Leads, and Business Administrator to ensure smooth execution of projects and overall business operations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Management
- Oversee daily construction operations, ensuring that all crews are meeting deadlines and following project plans.
- Work with the Owner/CEO to develop project schedules, budgets, and timelines.
- Monitor project progress and adjust resources or timelines as necessary to keep projects on track.
- Ensure that all work is performed to company and client specifications, including quality standards and safety requirements.
- Contract and Vendor Management
- Negotiate and manage relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Review and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
- Crew Supervision and Coordination
- Lead and manage all field crews, providing direction and support to Crew Leads.
- Assign tasks to Crew Leads and workers based on project needs and crew capacity.
- Ensure all crew members have the necessary tools, materials, and information to complete their tasks.
- Conduct regular check-ins with Crew Leads to assess progress and address any issues that arise on the job site.
- Communication and Reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the office and the crews in the field.
- Provide regular updates to the Owner/CEO regarding project status, crew performance, and any potential delays or issues.
- Ensure that Crew Leads maintains accurate job site documentation, including daily reports, time sheets, and material usage.
- Facilitate clear communication between office staff, clients, and field crews to ensure expectations are met.
- Quality Control and Safety
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Conduct site inspections to verify quality of work and adherence to project specifications.
- Address any issues related to workmanship, materials, or safety hazards in a timely manner.
- Provide guidance and support to crews in implementing best practices for safety and efficiency.
- Resource Management
- Ensure that all projects are appropriately staffed and that crews have the materials and equipment needed for their tasks.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to procure materials and ensure timely deliveries to job sites.
- Manage project budgets, keeping track of labor costs, material expenses, and other expenditures.
- Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution
- Identify and resolve any obstacles that could impact project completion, including crew issues, resource shortages, or unexpected site conditions.
- Function as a mediator between crew members or between the crew and clients to resolve any conflicts that may arise.
- Scheduling and Time Management
- Create and manage the daily work schedule for all crews.
- Ensure that crews are working efficiently and productively to meet project deadlines.
- Monitor crew attendance and address any issues with punctuality or absenteeism.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in construction management, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in construction project management or a similar role.
- Strong leadership and crew management abilities.
- Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances on-site.
- Proficiency in project management software, Microsoft Office, and scheduling tools.
- Knowledge of construction processes, materials, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
